BIM in gastro is not just for developers - why I consider it crucial for efficient operations
BIM in gastro is not just for developers - why I consider it crucial for efficient operations
When I talk to someone about BIM, I often hear:
"It's mainly for developers, isn't it?"
And I reply, "Wrong. It's in the kitchen that it saves you the most trouble."
In the P-4G design office, we deal with foodservice projects every day, where it's a fight for every inch. And do you know when those centimeters show up the most? When it's too late - on the job site.
Collisions that hurt... and your wallet.
Imagine you have a beautiful 2D drawing. Everything looks right. But then the moment comes when the HVAC system is being installed, and lo and behold - the HVAC system clashes with your hood, the waste doesn't fit, the technology stands differently than it should.
And now what? Improvisation, cost overruns, delays.
I've seen these situations many times. And that's why I say: a BIM model will reveal all this before the first bolt is tightened.
The digital twin - a kitchen you can "touch" before construction
For investors and operators, a 3D model is more than just a pretty picture. Suddenly you can see which way to walk, where the operator will reach, where the meat will be cut and where the dishwasher spins. And importantly - you see it before it costs millions.
BIM doesn't end with the approval
What do I like most about BIM? That it's not a one-off thing. When you have an operation where something is constantly being changed, rebuilt or serviced, the BIM model stays current and serves as a digital manual. No more searching through drawers for lost drawings.
Why do I believe this and why do we do it at P-4G?
I personally see BIM as a key tool for the future. Not because it's modern, but because it's practical.
Our clients already expect more than just a 2D drawing. They want to see how their operation will actually work.
And that's why at P-4G we take BIM for granted. Not as something extra.
If you're wondering what your kitchen could look like before the first brick falls, get in touch. I'd be happy to show you.
